In the summer of 2009, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm at an apartment complex on Gilmerton Road in Chesapeake, Virginia, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. On the night of June 28th, 23-year-old Darius Taylor was at his home when violence erupted. Around 10:22 p.m., two unidentified Black males opened fire, striking Taylor and another man before fleeing the scene on foot.
The sudden and brutal attack sent shockwaves through the community as police descended on the area.
Darius Taylor, a resident of the very complex where he was gunned down, succumbed to his injuries from the shooting. The second victim of the shooting was also wounded. The Chesapeake Police Department launched an immediate and intensive investigation into the homicide. Detectives canvassed the neighborhood, searching for clues and speaking to potential witnesses in an effort to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Despite their efforts, the motive for the attack remained elusive.
