In the late summer of 2014, a violent encounter in Chesapeake, Virginia, claimed the life of Patrick Crisp, a 29-year-old Black man. On the evening of September 1, 2014, police were called to the 1200 block of Transylvania Avenue in the South Norfolk area, where they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, bleeding badly, had reportedly banged on a neighbor's door pleading for help before medical assistance arrived.
Both injured men were transported to Chesapeake
General Hospital for treatment. While one of the victims was treated and subsequently released, Patrick Crisp, a resident of the 2200 block of Decatur Street in Chesapeake, succumbed to his injuries three days later on September 4, 2014. At the time of the initial investigation, police stated that there was no indication that the two victims knew each other.
The Chesapeake Police Department classified Crisp's death as a homicide. Despite the passage of time, the case has grown cold. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Patrick Crisp remains open and is part of the Chesapeake Police Department's list of unsolved homicides. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward in the hope of bringing closure to his family.
