In the late summer of 2014, a violent encounter in Chesapeake, Virginia, claimed the life of Patrick Crisp, a 29-year-old Black man. On the evening of September 1, 2014, police were called to the 1200 block of Transylvania Avenue in the South Norfolk area, where they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, bleeding badly, had reportedly banged on a neighbor's door pleading for help before medical assistance arrived.
