On December 15, 2024, Chesapeake Police responded to a report of a body found along the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail. At approximately 12:45 p.m., officers arrived at the 1200 block of George Washington Highway, where they discovered a male victim in the water near the park entrance. The Chesapeake Police Underwater Search and Rescue Team retrieved the body, identifying the deceased as 32-year-old Donte’y Christian Parrish of Hampton, Virginia.
