On a summer evening in Richmond, Virginia, the life of 30-year-old Hispanic male Daniel Cortez-Cisneros was tragically cut short. On June 11, 2011, officers were called to the 5300 block of Broad Rock Boulevard where they discovered Cortez-Cisneros inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the death of Daniel Cortez-Cisneros led authorities across the country.
More than a month after the shooting, two suspects were apprehended in Chelan County, Washington. Brothers Ismael Moreno and Jonathan Moreno were taken into custody in connection with the homicide. The arrests were the result of a collaborative effort between the U.S. Marshals Service, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office, and the Richmond Police Department.
Following their capture, Ismael and Jonathan Moreno were extradited back to Richmond to face charges for their alleged involvement in the death of Cortez-Cisneros. Both brothers were charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Ismael Moreno faced an additional charge of murder, while Jonathan Moreno was also charged with being an accessory to murder. The investigation suggested that the shooting was the result of a dispute that had occurred earlier.
