In the Southside area of Richmond, Virginia, a young Black man named Adl Musa Johnson, known to many as 'Ace Boogie,' was fatally shot on January 21, 2012. At 22 years of age, his life was cut short on a sidewalk in the 3000 block of Columbia Street. When police responded to the scene at approximately 4:20 p.m., they found Johnson with a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was a resident of the 1900 block of Raven Street.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Richmond police officers detained a possible suspect several blocks from where Johnson's body was found. This individual was taken in for questioning as the investigation into the homicide began. While the initial detention showed swift action by law enforcement, the path to resolving the case would unfold over the subsequent months.
