In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Norfolk, Virginia, the life of 21-year-old Stacey M. Cherry was tragically cut short. On February 21, 2012, while visiting his grandmother on South Cape Henry Avenue, the young Black / African American man was fatally shot. Residents in the area reported hearing the distinct sound of multiple gunshots echoing through the neighborhood at approximately 10:45 p.m.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Cherry in the street, having sustained fatal injuries.
The sudden and violent death of Stacey Cherry sent ripples of grief through his community.
