In the late hours of a Monday night in Newport News, Virginia, the life of 16-year-old Ricky LaTwan Platt was tragically cut short. On October 2, 2012, the Black / African American male was fatally shot at the Heritage Trace Apartments located in the Denbigh area of the city. Police responded to a call of shots fired just after midnight and discovered the teenager in the parking lot, lying next to a dumpster. He had sustained at least one gunshot wound to his torso.
