In the city of Norfolk, Virginia, a young man's promising future was tragically cut short on the cold night of January 11, 2013. Travis Lee Bryant, a 21-year-old Black male, was standing outside with friends in the 4900 block of East Princess Anne Road when gunfire erupted around 10 p.m. He was struck by multiple bullets. Another man with him was also injured in the shooting.
Despite the immediate efforts to save him, which included being rushed first to Sentara Leigh Hospital and then transferred to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Travis Lee Bryant succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The sudden and violent end to his life left his family and the community in a state of shock and profound grief.
Travis was remembered by his family as a beacon of potential and a source of immense pride. A standout athlete, he had excelled in three sports at Norview High School, where he was also an honor student. His ambition and drive were further evidenced by his enrollment as a business management student at Tidewater Community College, with dreams of one day owning his own business to provide for his family. His mother, Denise Bryant, lovingly referred to him as her 'Budda Baby' and struggled to comprehend the senseless act that took her son.
In the wake of the shooting, the Norfolk Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. However, despite their efforts and the passage of time, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the murder of Travis Lee Bryant. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation, leaving his loved ones without a sense of closure or justice for the vibrant young man who was taken from them far too soon.
