In the early morning hours of May 11, 2013, the life of 29-year-old Dominique Lamont Richardson, also known as Dominique Richards, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire in downtown Richmond, Virginia. The male victim was one of three men shot when violence erupted in the vicinity of North 5th and East Broad Streets.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:08 a.m., shortly after the Paradise Lounge had closed for the night, leaving many people in the area.
Amidst the chaos, officers in the vicinity heard random gunfire. An officer on extra duty discovered a man who had been shot on North 4th Street, just north of East Grace Street. Two other victims were found in a public parking lot in the 400 block of East Broad Street.
All three victims were rushed to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center for treatment. Richardson had sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg that struck his femoral artery and was in critical condition before succumbing to his injury. The other two victims were identified as Jermaine Rodney Williams, who suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to the back, and James Alfred Prosser, Jr., who was treated for a non-life-threatening wound to his lower back.
Despite the number of potential witnesses present at the time of the shooting, the Richmond Police Department reported that very few were cooperative with the investigation. In the immediate aftermath, numerous different cartridge cases and other evidence were collected from the parking lot where two of the victims were located. To date, the case remains an active investigation and is listed in the Virginia Cold Case Database. There have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the killing of Dominique Richards.
