In the early hours of August 18, 2013, the life of 40-year-old Victor Amilcar Soriano-Aviles was tragically cut short in what police have described as a home-invasion robbery. A Hispanic male, Mr. Soriano-Aviles was at his residence on Clarkson Road in Richmond, Virginia, when the violent encounter unfolded.
Shortly after midnight, two intruders, described as skinny-built African American males with their faces obscured by black masks, forced their way into the home through a rear door.
The assailants immediately demanded money. During the confrontation, one of the intruders struck Mr. Soriano-Aviles in the face with a handgun. A struggle then broke out between the armed suspect and the victim's cousin, Buenerge DeJesus Soriano, who was also present in the home.
Amid the chaos, Victor Amilcar Soriano-Aviles was shot once in the head. The two suspects then fled the scene through the back door and disappeared into the night. Despite their demands for money, it was reported that nothing was taken from the residence. Emergency services were called, and Mr. Soriano-Aviles was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to the fatal gunshot wound.
The Richmond Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the death of Mr. Soriano-Aviles. However, despite the passage of time, the case has grown cold. The two men responsible for his death have never been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. The case remains an open and unsolved homicide, leaving a family to mourn and a community with unanswered questions about the senseless act of violence that took a man's life in his own home.
