On the morning of February 27, 2014, the life of 38-year-old Jeffrey Scott Earhart, a Caucasian male from Staunton, Virginia, was tragically cut short in a sudden act of violence at his workplace in Waynesboro. Earhart, an employee at the F. R. Drake Company, was shot and killed by his co-worker, Boyd W. Wiseman. The incident unfolded without any apparent warning or provocation.
Wiseman arrived at the company on Hopeman Parkway shortly after Earhart and proceeded to shoot him twice with a. 38-caliber Derringer. The first shot struck Earhart in the back, and as he turned, a second shot was fired into his chest, proving to be fatal. Another co-worker later discovered Earhart's body.
The investigation that followed revealed that Wiseman had been misusing several prescription medications. A psychiatrist who testified during the legal proceedings stated that Wiseman was experiencing 'acute delirium,' including hallucinations and delusions, at the time of the shooting.
Boyd W. Wiseman was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was convicted of these charges and sentenced to a total of 26 years in prison: 23 years for the murder and an additional three years for the firearm charge.
