In the early hours of May 25, 2024, in Waynesboro, Virginia, a violent encounter shattered the lives of three individuals who were once intertwined in a close friendship. Seth Wayne Wallace, a 22-year-old male, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the 1300 block of D Street at approximately 4:18 a.m. He was immediately transported to UVA Medical Center to be treated for his life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, Wallace succumbed to his injuries less than three weeks later. The incident, which at first appeared to be a senseless act of violence, unraveled into a story of a friendship destroyed by a love triangle.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to two individuals: Dustin Allen Dove, 23, of McGaheysville, and Kaylee Grace Turner, 21. Dove was apprehended just twelve hours after the shooting and was initially charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The narrative of what transpired revealed a deep-seated personal conflict. Dove and Wallace, once inseparable best friends, had a falling out that seemed to center around Turner, who was Dove's girlfriend. The tension between the two men escalated through a series of contentious messages, with Wallace allegedly making insensitive remarks about Dove's mother's cancer diagnosis.
The conflict reached its tragic climax when Dove and Turner drove to Wallace's home. Prosecutors stated that Dove lay in wait and, upon seeing Wallace, fired numerous shots, with many striking Wallace in his lower torso and groin area. Body camera footage from the responding officers captured a wounded but conscious Wallace identifying his shooter as 'Dustin.' Following Wallace's death, the charges against Dove were upgraded. In April of the following year, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, and he was subsequently sentenced to life in prison. In a further development, Kaylee Grace Turner was arrested in October and charged with second-degree murder for her involvement in the crime. Both she and Dove are being held without bond.
