In the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 23, 2024, a report of a weapon discharge sent Waynesboro police officers to the 400 block of James Avenue. Upon their arrival at 9:02 a.m., they made a grim discovery on the front porch of a residence. Thirty-three-year-old Trevor Lamar Hill, a male resident of Waynesboro, was found deceased. The cause of his death was determined to be a fatal shooting.
At the scene, officers also found another Waynesboro man, 23-year-old Jacob Preston Sipe, who was suffering from injuries. Sipe was transported to Augusta Health for medical treatment. Following his release from the hospital, his connection to the morning's violent events became clear as he was taken into custody by law enforcement.
Jacob Preston Sipe was arrested and faced two felony charges in connection with Hill's death: second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was subsequently held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail. A scheduled bond hearing for Sipe in Waynesboro General District Court was later postponed until September 10. The investigation into the shooting remains active, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
