In the spring of 2020, the life of a Waynesboro, Virginia man was tragically cut short in an act of violence that would later be attributed to a neighbor. Jim John 'Jay' Cash, Jr., a 47-year-old male, was found deceased in his residence on Ivanhoe Avenue on April 10, 2020. An investigation by the Waynesboro Police Department revealed that Cash had died from a gunshot wound. Alongside him, a female victim was discovered with serious injuries, and she was subsequently transported to a hospital for medical attention.
Months after the discovery of the crime, authorities made an arrest in connection with Cash's death. On August 6, 2020, the Waynesboro Police Department, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, apprehended Donte L. Harris. The 30-year-old resident of Waynesboro was taken into custody in Harrisonburg without incident. Harris was formally charged with second-degree murder for the death of Jim Cash, as well as malicious wounding related to the injuries sustained by the female victim and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
