On an autumn day in Richmond, Virginia, the life of 2-year-old Keytrell Kelly was tragically cut short. On October 8, 2014, the young male became a victim of a devastating murder-suicide that stemmed from a domestic dispute. The incident, which also claimed the lives of his 22-year-old mother, Michelle S. Kelly, and her 19-year-old friend, Adreena D. Gary, unfolded at his mother's home on East Roanoke Street.
The perpetrator was Keytrell's father, Traymont Burton.
Following a dispute with Michelle, Burton fatally shot Adreena, who was at the residence to help mediate the conflict. He then entered the home and killed both Michelle and their young son, Keytrell. After committing these acts, Burton turned the gun on himself, ending his own life.
Richmond Police responded to reports of shots fired and discovered the four bodies at the scene. Their investigation quickly determined that the incident was a murder-suicide and that Traymont Burton was the sole person responsible for the deaths of Keytrell, his mother, and her friend. As the identified suspect was deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the case.
