In the city of Richmond, Virginia, a quiet street in the East End was shaken by violence on the morning of March 2, 2016. Inside his home in the 1300 block of North 29th Street, Thomas Jones Sr., a 54-year-old Black man, was found dead from a gunshot wound. The call came in around 8:19 AM, and when police arrived, they pronounced him dead at the scene. The case was quickly classified as a homicide by the Richmond Police Department.
