On August 4, 2016, Omar Taylor, a 39-year-old resident of Norfolk, Virginia, was found shot to death on the beach in the Willoughby Spit section of the city. The Norfolk Police Department responded to a call about an unresponsive person on the beach at 15th View Street just before 2 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Taylor with gunshot wounds, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots early that morning but initially mistook them for firecrackers.
