In the late morning hours of a Monday in Norfolk, Virginia, the life of 50-year-old Andre E. Valentine was tragically cut short. On August 22, 2016, emergency dispatchers received a call reporting a shooting in the 900 block of Avenue H. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found Valentine lying in the roadway, having sustained a gunshot wound.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Andre Valentine, a resident of the 8600 block of Chapin Street, quickly progressed. Detectives identified a suspect in the fatal shooting. The following day, on August 23, police arrested 36-year-old Grenah E. Garrett of Norfolk.
Garrett was subsequently charged in connection with Valentine's death. The charges brought against him included second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and grand larceny. Following his arrest, Garrett was held in the Norfolk City Jail.
