On the evening of March 2, 2017, 18-year-old Kivonte Laquan Sessoms, a senior at Varina High School in Henrico County, Virginia, was fatally shot at the intersection of Futura and Westover Avenues. Responding officers found Sessoms with a gunshot wound inflicted at close range; he was transported to VCU Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
