In the late hours of a Monday evening in Woodbridge, Virginia, emergency services responded to a fire at an apartment building. Inside one of the units, amidst the smoke and flames, first responders made a grim discovery. They found the body of 54-year-old Simeon Saplan Lim.
The initial investigation into the blaze on April 24, 2017, soon revealed a tragic sequence of events. Authorities determined that Lim had intentionally set the fire within his own apartment. Further examination by the medical examiner concluded that Lim had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Given that the investigation pointed to a suicide, there were no suspects sought by law enforcement in connection with Simeon Saplan Lim's death, and consequently, no arrests were made. The case was classified as a death investigation that concluded with the finding of suicide.
