Jasiya Ahmar Vaughn, a 21-year-old Black man from Woodbridge, Virginia, was fatally shot on the evening of October 2, 2025. The incident occurred shortly before 10:50 p.m. on a sidewalk outside the Alamo Drafthouse at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center. An encounter between Vaughn and at least one other individual escalated, resulting in Vaughn being shot multiple times. First responders attempted to provide aid, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. An 18-year-old man who was with Vaughn sustained a non-life-threatening graze wound to his lower body.
Authorities stated that the shooting did not appear to be a random act and that Vaughn was targeted. Immediately after the gunfire, the suspect or suspects fled the area. The Prince William County Police Department initiated a homicide investigation, appealing to the public for any information or witnesses to the event. The investigation that followed was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
On November 5, 2025, a significant breakthrough in the case was announced with the arrests of three men. The arrests were the culmination of simultaneous law enforcement operations carried out in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Arizona, with assistance from the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service. The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Shawki Saah Fofanah of Dumfries, 22-year-old George Kwasi Attakora of Stafford, and 25-year-old Musa Abraham Sesay of Dumfries. Fofanah was apprehended in Surprise, Arizona, while Attakora and Sesay were taken into custody in Stafford County and Washington, D.C., respectively.
Each of the three men face different charges related to the death of Jasiya Ahmar Vaughn. Shawki Saah Fofanah has been charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. George Kwasi Attakora is charged as a principal in the second degree, and Musa Abraham Sesay is charged as an accessory before the fact. Following their arrests, all three men were held in custody with court dates pending.
