In the early morning hours of July 23, 2017, the life of 18-year-old Asia Serria Munden-Ferrell was tragically cut short in Hampton, Virginia. An African American female, Munden-Ferrell was outside an apartment complex in the 100 block of Lassiter Drive when a dark-colored sedan drove by. Occupants of the vehicle began firing shots towards the apartments.
During the barrage of gunfire, Munden-Ferrell was struck by a single bullet.
Members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene to find her with a gunshot wound and pronounced her dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that in addition to the fatal shot that struck Munden-Ferrell, a building and several cars were also hit by the gunfire. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in the incident.
Despite the efforts of the Hampton Police Division, the case of Asia Serria Munden-Ferrell's death remains unsolved. To date, there have been no arrests made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting. Law enforcement has urged anyone with information regarding the homicide to come forward as they continue to seek leads that could bring justice for Asia and her family.
