In the winter of 2019, a domestic dispute in a Hampton, Virginia apartment escalated to a fatal conclusion, claiming the life of 23-year-old Amber Greenidge. On the afternoon of January 20th, Hampton Police responded to a call, initially reported as a stabbing, at the Cambridge Apartments on Goldsboro Drive. While en route, the call was tragically upgraded to include a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene. Amber Greenidge, a Black female, was found with a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Also present was 22-year-old Christian Neal, who was suffering from a stab wound. The preliminary investigation revealed that Greenidge and Neal, who lived together, had been embroiled in a verbal argument that spiraled into a physical altercation. During the fight, Neal was stabbed and Greenidge was shot.
Further investigation, as detailed in an arrest warrant, indicated that Greenidge had allegedly slashed Neal's chest with a small pocket knife, resulting in a superficial wound. In response, Neal retrieved a gun from a dresser and shot Greenidge once in the face. Neal, who was an active-duty sailor in the U.S. Navy at the time, was taken to a local hospital for his non-life-threatening injury before being taken into custody.
Christian Neal was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the death of Amber Greenidge. The charges brought against him were one count of manslaughter and one count of discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling. He was held without bond following his arrest.
