In the predawn hours of April 18, 2012, a domestic dispute in a Hampton, Virginia neighborhood escalated into a horrific scene of violence that would leave four family members dead. Carla Denise Frye Williams, a 38-year-old White female, was discovered by police in the street on Ravenscroft Lane, suffering from severe injuries including gunshot and stab wounds, as well as burns.
Despite being rushed to a local hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
As officers arrived at the scene around 4:00 a.m., they were confronted with a house engulfed in flames. Inside the burning home, firefighters would later discover the bodies of Carla's 14-month-old daughter, Tori Kaitlyn Williams, and her 76-year-old grandmother, Katie Frye. Both had perished in the blaze that investigators determined was intentionally set. The unfolding tragedy pointed to a violent domestic altercation that had reached a fatal climax.
The primary suspect in the brutal attack on Carla and the deadly arson was her estranged husband, 38-year-old Travis Williams. The couple was reportedly in the midst of a contentious divorce and had a court hearing just days before the incident. Court records revealed a history of domestic issues, with police having been called to the residence on multiple occasions in the months leading up to the fatal encounter. Carla had also obtained a protective order against her husband.
Upon their arrival, police encountered Travis Williams on the roof of the burning house. An exchange of gunfire ensued between Williams and the officers. During the shootout, Travis Williams was struck by police bullets. He was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
