In the late spring of 2018, a burst of gunfire in Richmond, Virginia's Whitcomb Court neighborhood set in motion a tragedy that would ultimately claim the life of Charles H. Pope Jr. The shooting, which occurred on May 29, left the 30-year-old man gravely wounded. For weeks, Pope fought for his life, a battle that sadly came to an end on June 21, 2018, when he succumbed to his injuries. His death was officially ruled a homicide, a stark statistic in the city's annual count of violent crimes.
