Latavia Brown, a 30-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on November 16, 2021, in Chicago, Illinois. On that fateful day, Latavia was on her way to a bank, accompanied by her boyfriend, when their vehicle was ambushed in the Avalon Park neighborhood. A white Chrysler 300 pulled up behind them and opened fire, riddling their car with bullets. Latavia's boyfriend survived the attack, but she succumbed to her injuries at Jackson Park Hospital.
Her mother, Demetric Brown, was allowed to say a final goodbye at the hospital, a moment she described as seeing her daughter "just laying there asleep," a heart-wrenching experience for any parent.
In the aftermath of Latavia's death, her mother has been vocal in demanding justice and answers from city officials, including Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Police Superintendent David Brown. Despite the passage of time, there have been no significant updates in the investigation. Surveillance footage captured the suspect's vehicle, and the license plate was traced back to a car reported stolen 12 days before the shooting.
