On a late Sunday evening in Portsmouth, Virginia, the life of 30-year-old Anthony Reid, Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short. Just after 11 p.m. on September 9, 2018, police responded to a call on Centre Avenue, near Elm Avenue. Arriving medics found Reid inside his parked car, where he was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The incident was captured on surveillance footage, which would later prove crucial in the investigation.
