On a Tuesday night in Norfolk, Virginia, the sound of gunfire shattered the peace in the 1500 block of Melon Street. It was September 11, 2018, and the violence of that evening would claim the life of 42-year-old Kaliek L. Suber, a Black male. Shortly after the shots were reported at around 10 p.m., two men arrived at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
