In the early morning hours of November 8, 2018, the life of 26-year-old Steven Christopher Richardson was tragically cut short in Newport News, Virginia. Police and fire officials responded to a call around 1:34 a.m. about an unresponsive male on the ground in the 600 block of Ridley Circle, the same area where Richardson lived.
Upon their arrival, first responders discovered Richardson suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite their efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The case was immediately classified as a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Newport News Police Department. In the wake of the shooting, members of the police department and local faith leaders organized a community walk to foster a sense of care and encourage citizen engagement in the effort to bring solace to the neighborhood and seek justice for Richardson.
