Nicholas Bernard, an 18-year-old Caucasian male, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. A senior at Liberty High School, Nicholas was known for his vibrant personality and his ability to bring joy to those around him. On the morning of
January 8th, at approximately 12:43 a.m., emergency services received a call from a residence on Wycliffe Street. Upon arrival, Bedford Police and Bedford County Sheriff's deputies found Nicholas critically injured from what was reported by witnesses as a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Bedford County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Initially, it was unclear whether the gunshot was accidental or intentional. However, the investigation concluded that no foul play was suspected, and there were no indications of criminal activity or the involvement of any other individuals.
