In the spring of 2020, a young man's life was abruptly cut short in Henrico, Virginia. Joseph Baldwin, a 22-year-old Black / African American male, was killed on May 4, 2020. The incident unfolded in the 5000 block of Millers Lane, a quiet residential area that was soon to be the center of a homicide investigation. In the early afternoon, at approximately 2:09 p.m., the sound of gunshots pierced the neighborhood calm, prompting calls to the authorities regarding a firearm violation.
Upon
their arrival, Henrico police officers discovered Joseph Baldwin's body. He was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where it was determined that his death was a homicide. As investigators began to piece together the events of that tragic day, neighbors reported hearing the gunshots that had ended Baldwin's life. The investigation moved swiftly, and authorities soon identified a suspect.
Not long after the fatal shooting, police arrested 20-year-old Lyanna Chun, also a resident of Henrico. She was taken into custody and subsequently charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with Joseph Baldwin's death. Law enforcement officials have indicated that they are not actively seeking any other individuals in relation to this case. The investigation remains ongoing as the legal process against Chun proceeds.
