In the early morning hours of March 29, 2024, a deadly scene unfolded inside a business on Nine Mile Road in Henrico, Virginia. When Henrico Police responded to a call of a firearm violation at approximately 5:02 a.m., they discovered the bodies of two men who had been shot to death. One of the victims was identified as 31-year-old Jermarlo Tisdale of Richmond, a Black male. The other victim was 36-year-old Rufus Witcher of Henrico.
The investigation into the double homicide revealed that the two men were not related. According to sources, the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute during a dice game inside the business. The mother of Rufus Witcher later confirmed that she was told her son was killed over a dice game. In a strange turn of events, a fire broke out at the same business in the early morning hours following the discovery of the bodies, though it was not immediately clear if the fire was connected to the homicides.
As the investigation progressed, Henrico Police identified a person of interest in the case. On August 21, 2024, they announced they were seeking 36-year-old Xavier T. Perkins of Richmond. Perkins is also wanted on unrelated charges out of Richmond and is considered to be armed and dangerous. Despite naming a person of interest, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Jermarlo Tisdale and Rufus Witcher. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring closure to the families of the two men whose lives were cut short.
