John Harding Pope, a 57-year-old man, was shot and killed in his home at the Mayflower Square apartment complex in the 5900 block of Quantrell Avenue in Alexandria, Virginia, on September 30, 2020. Responding to a call of a possible shooting around 3:50 p.m., police found Pope with an upper body injury. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Pope lived in the apartment with his 77-year-old mother. Neighbors described him as a positive presence in the building.
