In the solemn aftermath of the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, the life of Metropolitan Police Officer Jeffrey L. Smith, a 35-year-old male, came to a tragic end. Residing in Northern Virginia, he had been among the ranks of law enforcement who defended the Capitol building that day. In the line of duty, he was struck in the head with a metal pole.
