Charles William “Trip” Bopp, a 24-year-old male, was fatally shot on April 22, 2021, when he interrupted a burglary at his home in Remington, Virginia. Authorities discovered Bopp deceased on his front lawn from an apparent gunshot wound after he arrived at his residence around 5:30 p.m. The son of a retired Fauquier County Sheriff's Major, Bopp was a dairy farmer with a deep passion for agriculture that began at a young age.
Following an investigation, four individuals were arrested
and charged in connection with his death. Darren Nathaniel Davis, 36, of Manassas, was charged with murder, burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Jury Beatrice Guerra, 28, of Woodbridge, faced charges of first-degree murder and entering a dwelling with the intent to commit a felony. Martin Anuar Martinez, 30, of Manassas, was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, armed daytime burglary, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The fourth suspect, José Vidal Pereira, 31, of Manassas, was charged with first-degree murder, burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The investigation revealed that the suspects had extensive criminal histories. Martinez fled Virginia after the incident but was apprehended in Pecos County, Texas, and extradited back to Virginia. Evidence presented during a preliminary hearing included text messages, videos, cell phone location data, and GPS data from a court-ordered ankle monitor worn by one of the defendants. Following the hearing, a judge determined there was enough evidence for the cases against all four defendants to proceed to a grand jury.
