In the early morning hours of October 15, 2022, the quiet of Painter, Virginia, was broken by a discovery that would cast a long shadow over the community. Tabora Jermaine 'T.B.' Bailey, a 38-year-old Black / African American man, was found unresponsive in the 16000 block of Savagetown Road. When deputies from the Accomack County Sheriff's Office arrived at approximately 4:11 a.m., they found Bailey suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial investigation into Bailey's death quickly pointed towards a homicide, a conclusion that sent ripples of concern through the Eastern Shore community. His body was transported to the Norfolk Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death. The Accomack County Sheriff's Office, assisted by the Exmore and Painter Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as the Accomack County Department of Public Safety, began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to Bailey's violent end.
In the time that has passed since that tragic morning, the investigation into the death of Tabora Bailey has remained active. Authorities have repeatedly called on the public for assistance, urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, to come forward. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the homicide. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation, leaving a family and community still searching for answers and awaiting the day that justice will be served for the loss of a son, father, and brother.
