In the summer of 2021, a deadly confrontation in Craig County, Virginia, led to the death of 28-year-old Christopher Bud Broughman of Covington. The incident, which unfolded in the early morning hours of August 6, 2021, stemmed from an altercation at the home of Jerimiah Christian Bradshaw.
Following the fatal shooting, the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation launched an investigation.
The following day, on August 7, 2021, 29-year-old Jerimiah Christian Bradshaw was arrested in connection with Broughman's death. Initially, Bradshaw faced serious charges, including second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was held without bond at the Alleghany County Regional Jail.
As the case proceeded through the legal system, new developments emerged. On September 13, 2021, a grand jury indicted Bradshaw. Ultimately, the case did not go to a full trial on the initial charges. Instead, Bradshaw pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. On July 25, 2022, he was sentenced to ten years in prison, with five of those years suspended.
