On the evening of November 11, 2015, a burst of violence in a Woodbridge, Virginia parking lot cut short the life of 20-year-old Zachary Blaise Meter. At approximately 10:50 p.m., officers from the Prince William County Police Department were dispatched to the 14400 block of Village Drive following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Zachary in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. An acquaintance, a woman who was with Zachary at the time, was present but unharmed. Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence.
The investigation into Zachary's death swiftly led to the identification of two suspects. Just three days after the fatal shooting, on November 14, police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle believed to have been used in the incident. The driver, 21-year-old Bernard Winestock, was taken into custody. Further investigation pointed to the involvement of a second individual, Diamonte Marbury. On November 18, Marbury was located and arrested in Maryland.
Authorities reported that the deadly encounter stemmed from a drug transaction. Following their arrests, both men faced serious charges for their roles in Zachary's death. Bernard Winestock was charged with murder, while Diamonte Marbury was charged with murder principle in the second degree. Both suspects were held in custody in Maryland, awaiting extradition to Virginia to face the charges against them. Detectives indicated that they were seeking to identify additional suspects who may have been involved in the incident.
