On a Saturday afternoon in Woodbridge, Virginia, a dispute at a local car wash escalated into a fatal encounter for 54-year-old Earl Duwan Miller. The male victim, identified as a Black / African American resident of Woodbridge, was at the Sonic Soft Car Wash on Richmond Highway on September 14, 2024, when a verbal argument erupted between him and another man.
The initial disagreement seemed to de-escalate as the parties separated for a short time. However, the situation quickly intensified, turning into a physical altercation. During this struggle, the man Miller had been arguing with, 25-year-old Jermaine Antwoine Lewis of Springfield, allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Miller in the upper body. A woman with Lewis, identified as 29-year-old Vinisha Lanisa Neville of Woodbridge, is said to have brandished a firearm during the incident as well. An exterior wall of a building was also struck by gunfire, but no other injuries were reported.
Following the shooting, which occurred shortly before 4 p.m., Lewis and Neville fled the scene in a vehicle. Miller was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Virginia State Police apprehended Lewis and Neville a short time later along Interstate 95 in Fairfax County.
After an investigation into the shooting, authorities arrested both suspects. Jermaine Antwoine Lewis was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting from an occupied vehicle. He was held without bond. Vinisha Lanisa Neville was charged with brandishing a firearm.
