Jayson Linden Lewis, an 18-year-old Black male from Stafford, Virginia, was fatally shot on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in Woodbridge. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the 14100 block of Big Crest Lane, where a group of males had arranged to meet for a marijuana transaction. During the gathering, gunfire erupted, and Lewis was struck in the upper body.

Following the shooting, an acquaintance of Lewis contacted the police to report the shooting before leaving the area. When officers initially arrived, they could not locate a victim. Lewis was taken to a local hospital in another jurisdiction and was later airlifted to a trauma center for treatment of his life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead later that morning. The Prince William County Police Department determined that the shooting was not a random act and began a homicide investigation.

The investigation led to the identification of two juvenile suspects. On Friday, July 21, 2023, the first suspect, a 16-year-old male from Stafford, was arrested by the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with murder, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. The investigation continued, and a second suspect was identified. On May 22, 2024, nearly a year after the shooting, a 17-year-old male juvenile from Stafford was also taken into custody by the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. He faces the same charges of murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, robbery, and shooting at an occupied vehicle.
