In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in February 2019, the life of 18-year-old Jvonte Gibson was tragically cut short on the streets bordering Hammond, Indiana, and Calumet City. Gibson was discovered with a gunshot wound to his back, lying between two buildings in the first block of Waltham Avenue in Hammond. The young man was initially transported to Community Hospital in Munster before being transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
