In the early morning hours of Labor Day, September 6, 2021, the life of 51-year-old Poindexter Demetrius Penny of Roanoke, Virginia, was tragically cut short. Around 1 a.m., Roanoke Police were called to the 1500 block of Downing Street NW after reports of shots fired and a person down. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mr. Penny in a parking lot with critical injuries from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
