In the early morning hours of September 26, 2021, in Portsmouth, Virginia, a violent incident cut short the lives of two men, one of whom was 38-year-old Aaron Harris. The events unfolded at the intersection of Lansing Avenue and Randolph Street, where police initially responded to what appeared to be a two-vehicle crash. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Harris was found with a fatal gunshot wound.
Alongside Harris in the same vehicle was 55-year-old Tony Palmer, who was critically injured. Emergency services transported Palmer to a local hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to identify a suspect in the case.
Portsmouth Police zeroed in on 27-year-old Duquan Shaquille Johnson as the individual allegedly responsible for the deaths of Harris and Palmer. In a turn of events, Johnson voluntarily went to the police station to speak with detectives. Following this interview, he was arrested and faced a litany of serious charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of use of a firearm, and shooting to commit or attempt a felony.

In November 2024, the case against him went to trial, but it was ultimately declared a mistrial due to complications with the jury.
