In the winter of 2021, the life of 31-year-old Demonz Markese Wilson was cut short in a fatal shooting in Suffolk, Virginia. On the evening of December 27th, Suffolk Police responded to a call at 8:50 p.m. regarding a shooting in the 100 block of North Capital Street in the Jericho area of the city. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Wilson at the scene. He was pronounced deceased. The initial investigation led to the closure of the block for several hours as law enforcement processed the scene.
Within days, the Suffolk Police Department identified a suspect and issued warrants for his arrest. Jerome J. Scott, a 26-year-old from Suffolk, was charged with First Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony in connection with Wilson's death. Authorities believed Scott was driving either a black Mercedes Benz sedan or a dark-colored Dodge Durango and cautioned that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
The search for Scott concluded on Friday, January 14, 2022, when he was taken into custody without incident. His arrest was the result of a coordinated effort between the Suffolk Police Department and the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office.
