In a quiet Fairfax, Virginia neighborhood, a tragedy unfolded that left a family and community in mourning. On May 14, 2022, Madeline Bregman, a 76-year-old female, was found deceased in her home on Stallworth Court. Responding to a welfare check, officers from the Fairfax County Police Department made the grim discovery, finding both Madeline and her 77-year-old husband, Michael Bregman, with fatal gunshot wounds.
The preliminary investigation by the Major Crimes Bureau pointed towards a domestic-related murder-suicide. Detectives believe that Michael Bregman shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. Evidence recovered from the scene, including a firearm and several spent cartridge cases, supported this conclusion. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was tasked with conducting autopsies to officially confirm the cause and manner of their deaths.
As the investigation proceeded, it was revealed that Michael Bregman was a former special agent in charge for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
