On the late evening of Monday, May 16, 2022, the life of 27-year-old Deanthony Marke' Davis of Petersburg, Virginia, was tragically cut short. In the 600 block of Winston Churchill Drive in Hopewell, officers responded to a call of shots fired around 11:40 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered a male, later identified as Davis, lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Witnesses at the location reported hearing a verbal argument that escalated, followed by the sound of several gunshots. A dark-colored sedan was seen leaving the area shortly after the shots were fired. The Hopewell Police Department's Criminal Investigations Unit immediately began an investigation into the homicide.
The investigation led authorities to identify Jerrell Armani Crawley of Petersburg as a person of interest in the case. On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Jerrell Armani Crawley was found guilty of Felony Second Degree Murder in connection with the death of Deanthony Davis.
