On the evening of September 23, 2022, Jonathan O. Fitzgerald, a 40-year-old Black male from Richmond, Virginia, was fatally shot outside the S&M Deli Convenience Store in the 400 block of E. Laburnum Avenue in Henrico County. The incident prompted multiple 911 calls just after 8:45 p.m. reporting the shooting. When Henrico Police arrived at the scene, they discovered Fitzgerald with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the location.
