In the tragic events of November 22, 2022, Randall Blake 'Randy' Blevins, a 70-year-old male, was fatally shot and killed in a mass shooting that took place at a Walmart Supercenter in Chesapeake, Virginia. Blevins was a dedicated employee of Walmart for 30 years and was a native of Chesapeake.
The perpetrator of this violent act was identified as Andre Marcus Bing, a night supervisor at the Walmart. On the morning of the shooting, Bing legally purchased the 9mm handgun he would later use. That evening, he entered the store's breakroom where employees were gathered for a routine meeting and opened fire. Survivors of the attack later recounted that Bing appeared to be targeting specific individuals. A list of names of employees he intended to target was found on his person, with a similar list discovered at his home.
In the course of the shooting, Bing killed six Walmart employees, including Randall Blevins. The other victims were Fernando Chavez-Barron, 16; Tyneka Johnson, 22; Lorenzo Gamble, 43; Brian Pendleton, 38; and Kellie Pyle, 52. After carrying out the attack, Bing turned the gun on himself, dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigations following the tragedy revealed a suicide note written by Bing. In it, he expressed feelings of being harassed at work and being 'led by Satan.' He also wrote about his loneliness and struggles with women. Fellow Walmart employees described Bing as a difficult and hostile individual, with some alleging he had plans to kill other managers at the store. The Chesapeake Walmart was closed for several months for a full renovation following the tragic event.
