On the evening of June 5, 1995, a 21-year-old male resident of Trenton, New Jersey, named Adrian Davis, was fatally shot. His life was cut short during a street encounter with two armed men, Jermaine Vaughn and Jeremiah Bass. The two men had been driving around Trenton and consuming alcohol when they decided they needed money to get into parties.
Armed with a revolver, Vaughn, along with Bass, came across Davis.
A brief struggle ensued, during which Vaughn's firearm discharged, inflicting a fatal wound upon Davis. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The subsequent investigation into the death of Adrian Davis led to the apprehension of both Jermaine Vaughn and Jeremiah Bass. An eyewitness, a woman who had observed the confrontation from her home, provided crucial information to the police that aided in their capture. Following his arrest, Jermaine Vaughn was charged with first-degree felony murder, robbery, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. In 1999, he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison with a thirty-year period of parole ineligibility. Vaughn's conviction was upheld through multiple appeals.
