In the early morning hours of November 29, 2020, the life of 37-year-old Omar Billups was tragically cut short in Trenton, New Jersey. Billups was discovered in a first-floor apartment on Centre Street with a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head and was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marked the city's 39th homicide of that year.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to 25-year-old Quintin Thompson of nearby Hamilton Township.
Surveillance footage and witness statements connected Thompson to Billups on the night of the murder. Investigators learned that Billups's cellphone and keys were missing from the crime scene. Further investigation uncovered a plot to rob Billups, leading to charges of murder, felony murder, robbery, and weapons offenses against Thompson.
An alleged accomplice, Emoni Henderson, was also implicated in the case. Henderson, Thompson's girlfriend, faced charges of burglary, theft, and related weapons offenses. A search of her apartment resulted in the discovery of a 9mm Glock 26 handgun, which was equipped with an extended magazine and loaded with hollow-point bullets. Both Thompson and Henderson were subsequently indicted on charges related to the murder and theft.
